Ekkono wins German Innovation Award 2020

The winners of the third-ever German Innovation Awards were announced in Berlin on May 26. The award is given out by the German Design Council, which was established in 1953 as an initiative of the German federal parliament. Ekkono convinced the jury with its product ‘Ekkono Edge Intelligence’, a machine learning software that has received the German Innovation Award “Gold” title for “Connectivity” in the “Excellence in Business to Business” class of the competition.

– The submitted innovations are judged with a focus on their user centricity. It is this aspect that differentiates the German Innovation Awards from others. It works particularly well when future users are involved early in the development of the product and design. Many businesses have realized this and rely on corresponding methods to identify genuine customer needs and develop commercially relevant products based on them. Simultaneously, the fusion of analogue and digital innovation is increasingly important to the future success of new developments, explains Lutz Dietzold, Managing Director of the German Design Council.

By giving out the German Innovation Awards, the German Design Council honors pioneering examples of innovation that demonstrate a lasting impact and offer added value for the user. A total of 700 entries were received, including from industry giants such as SAP, Evonic, L’ORÉAL, Continental, R+V Allgemeine Versicherung and Schott as well as from hidden champions and start-ups. The judging criteria for the German Innovation Awards include attributes such as the extent of innovation, user benefit and economic viability.

– We’re not just winning the German Design Award, but we’re actually winning Gold! This is a strong testimonial to the strength of our technology and the gigantic potential for Smart IoT. And the timing couldn’t be better as we’ve recently established our Germany subsidiary. I’m thankful that the German Design Council were able to see and grasp the sustainable impact of our technology as the industry goes beyond designing efficient products to optimizing how each and every individual machine and vehicle is used and utilized in an optimal way, says Jon Lindén, CEO of Ekkono Solutions.
